  • Thanksgiving is just around the corner, which can be a stressful time for many as they are faced with choosing what to make for this special feast, and even more so what wines to pair with their meal. Luckily, we’ve got you covered with the best wines to serve with turkey, ham, as well as a vegetarian alternative. These wines will tie all the warm, fall flavors together, completing your Thanksgiving dinner experience, and leaving you satisfied.

It’s important to take into consideration the range of flavors and aromas that will be present at the dinner table. There’s white and dark meat, caramelized yams, creamy mashed potatoes, tart cranberries, and the list goes on. Therefore, choosing a wine that goes well with a variety of foods is key. Curious about other wine and food pairings? Check out our basic and advanced pairing suggestions to enhance your wine tasting experience.

    Wine to Pair with Turkey

    1. Pinot Noir – A cool-climate Pinot Noir pairs great with turkey and is full of fall flavors like cranberry, clove, and fresh red fruits. You can opt for a New World wine from Oregon, or a Burgundian Pinot Noir that yields grace and elegance. Try our Lemelson Vineyards Thea’s Selection in our Adventurer Bundle.
    2. Cabernet Franc – This smoky and spicy red pairs exceptionally well with both dark and light turkey cuts. It is a relatively vibrant red that can be best paired with heavier side dishes alongside the turkey. The Desert Hills Cabernet Franc in our Adventurer Bundle is a great option.

    Wine to Pair with Ham

    1. Riesling – This wine pairs best if you’re making a honey-glazed ham.  Filled with fresh aromas of honey and orange peel, this wine carries great balance and flavor to complement the salty dish. Check out the Phantom Creek Riesling as a pairing option in our Adventurer Bundle.
    2. Glera (Prosecco) – If you are choosing a smoked ham, it tends to be less salty and bursting with savory flavors. This classic, bubbly wine is great for celebrations will nicely complement the ham. The Zago – Millesimato wine pairs great and can be found in our Weekday Warrior bundle.

    Wine to Pair with Tofurky

    1. Chardonnay – An aromatic wine with a little bit of weight such as a Chardonnay that is bright, acidic, and juicy, pairs great with a buttery and rich tofurkey dish. We recommend the Casale del Giglio – Satrico, a Chardonnay blend in our Date Night Occasion Pack.
    2. Pinot Gris – Due to the salty flavors of tofurky, a crisp Pinot Gris will help to complement and balance out a savory tofurkey dish. The Pfaffenheim Grand Cru Steinert found in our Adventurer Bundle is a great pairing choice.

    Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving!
