  • Nestled high in the hills of Summerland, British Columbia is the fabulous and eclectic winery, Sage Hills. With a focus on low intervention, organic and natural wines, I was excited to visit this idyllic spot, recommended by our Master of Wine, Geoff Moss.

Firstly, for the view alone this is an amazing place you must visit. Added to that, their wines are very good. Knowledgeable staff are happy to take you through their available portfolio. All in a tasting room with a view to leave you breathless.

Some of my favourite wine picks were the Syrah, Brut Sauvage and Ancestral Pinot Gris. I also loved their Estate Grown Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc.

On the 10-acre property you will see vines of Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Wild plants such as sage brush and rabbitbrush are prevalent throughout the property and provide a healthy habitat for small mammals and birds, who in turn feed on insects, promoting a natural balance and harmony on the grounds.

What makes this property so unique is the patio space just round the corner and down from the tasting room. With stunning views of Lake Okanagan, you can take in the view with a glass or two of their wines, along with snacks. The staff are happy to advise you on food pairings. Tasting fees are $5 for 3 certified organic whites & $10 for 3 certified organic red wines and the patio is child and pet friendly. The tasting room is open 11-5pm daily and the address is 18555 Matsu Drive, Summerland.

This is definitely one of my favourite spots in the Okanagan, and most likely it will soon become one of yours as well.  Sage Hills wine will be made available in Paired Club’s Adventurer bundle for our upcoming subscription. Order your 4 or 6 pack Adventurer bundle to enjoy this delightful winery.
